What is a UPS?

A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) acts as a vital shield, safeguarding critical equipment from power fluctuations and outages by bridging the gap between the raw mains power supply and the protected devices.

Key Features:

  • Available in both single-phase and three-phase configurations.
  • Small UPS systems, conveniently plugged into power sockets, offer a few minutes of backup power from built-in batteries, sufficient for orderly computer shutdowns.
  • Longer backup times can be achieved by incorporating additional battery enclosures.
  • Larger systems, depending on power ratings, can have internal batteries and/or extra battery enclosures, which can be housed in matching enclosures, cladded stands, or open battery racks.
  • To extend battery backup durations significantly, generators can be integrated to power the UPS system while supporting air conditioning and lighting, offering a cost-effective alternative to batteries.
  • UPS systems can be equipped with features such as alerting fileservers for orderly shutdowns during outages, notifying users via text/email, and interacting with Building Management Systems (BMS) for comprehensive monitoring and control.
